The Letter to A. Philip Randolph
from F. Scott Fitzgerald

May 25, 1923.

Great Neck, L.I.,

DEAR MR. RANDOLPH:

I read THE MESSENGER from cover to cover and thoroughly enjoyed its intelligent editing and its liberal point of view. Many congratulations to you, and many thanks for sending it to me...

Sincerely,

F. SCOTT FITZGERALD.

A. Philip Randolph - The Leader of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and editor of The Messenger. The May special book review number of The Messenger included a review of Tales of the Jazz Age. Fitzgerald was sent a copy of the magazine and was probably asked to respond.

Published in The Messenger magazine 5 (June 1923), 749; also in collection The Correspondence of F. Scott Fitzgerald (1981).
